Lunch & Learn w Akron U
Come learn with the University of Akron students! "Engineering Reconnaissance in Puerto Rico after Hurricanes Irma and Maria"
GEER (Geotechnical Extreme Event Reconnaissance) is a program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) which aims to turn disasters into knowledge. During NSF-GEER missions, important and perishable post-disaster geotechnical and foundation engineering data is collected in order to advance our understanding of extreme events (earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, landslides, floods, etc.). This knowledge can later be used by scientists, engineers, and officials to improve designs, building codes, safety of populations, and the resilience of our infrastructure. During the presentation Dr. Pradel will share his observations and findings during his mission in Puerto Rico.
