Construction Career Days - October 8-9, 2008
 The WNY Construction Career Days event was held October 8th and 9th at the Local 17 Operating Engineers Training Center on Pleasant Avenue in Lakeview. The annual event is held for juniors and seniors in high school who are interested in pursuing a career in the construction industry. Over 1,200 students attended the two day event. Students came from all over Western New York, from Eden to Niagara-Wheatfield. Volunteer members manned the Buffalo Section ASCE information booth where information on opportunities in civil engineering was displayed.  In addition, our booth contained handouts for the students including ASCE logo pens, ASCE logo sticky notes and informational pamphlets.

The Buffalo Section received an ASCE National SPAG Grant of $450 for the Construction Career Days event. The SPAG funds were used to help fund the purchase and reproduction of hand-out materials.

The Buffalo Section would like to thank all of the volunteers who made our participation in this year’s event possible, especially Irv Reinig, Athena Hutchins, Michael Bower and Michelle Bodewes who all volunteered their time to man the booth.
