Welcome to the American Society of Civil Engineers
Buffalo Section Website
Angela M. Hintz, P.E.
2008 - 2009 Section President
Beginning
in January, the Buffalo Board of Directors has decided to go in a new
direction with Section communications.
This has not been a short process. For several years, we have been
receiving feedback from Section members on how they want to be kept
informed of activities and meetings. We have also been introducing new
or updated forms of communication. Recently, our website has been
updated by our webmaster (and Treasurer) Jeff Fick and we have
implemented a new email system within the past year or so to respond to
our local members’ increasing use of electronic communications. At the
same time, printing and mailing costs for hardcopy newsletters have been
increasing.
At our October meeting, the ad-hoc Communications Committee, chaired by
one of our past-Presidents, Dean Goodison, presented before the Board a
plan for moving forward. The plan was ultimately approved by our Board.
This plan is described in detail in a
separate article, but the major points include:
-
Stop printing the
traditional newsletter after December.
-
Publish Section information
on website/maintain an online newsletter.
-
Create monthly flyer with
essential Section information (Monthly meeting announcements;
Section website address for members to use to access more Section
information; election information; and other critical announcements)
and send to those members without email addresses. All others would
receive the same information via mass email announcement with a link
to the website.
-
Continue Professional
Directory (i.e., newsletter business advertisements) on the website,
adding a link to the advertiser’s website.
The Board believes that this is
the best alternative to improving our communications with you, the
members. So, thank you for being loyal readers of our monthly newsletter
and we encourage you to be on the lookout for our emails regarding
future events, as well as check out the recently updated website.
Happy Holidays to you and your families and we’ll see you in the New
Year!
