Clay J. Naito, PhD, PE, Lehigh University
Clay Naito is a professor of structural engineering at Lehigh University. His research is focused on experimental and analytical evaluation of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures subjected to extreme dynamic events including earthquakes, impacts, and intentional blast demands. He has published over 80 peer reviewed articles and over 80 technical reports and conference papers. He is an associate editor for the ASCE Bridge Journal and has worked on a number of research effort funded by PennDOT. The talk will focus on the recent integration of an electrically isolated tendon system in the Coplay-Northampton Bridge. The bridge system is composed of precast pretensioned bulb tee beams that are field spliced and posttensioned. This is the first application of EIT technology in the United States. A background on the system and lessons learned will be discussed.
