Columbia Section December Meeting

Meal: Buffet $15 ($10 for students and ASCE Life Members) per person
Menu: Ginger Beef Stir Fry or Chicken Cordon Bleu, Rice Pilaf, Green Bean Alamandine, Various Vegetable/pasta/fruit salads, Rolls, Assorted Deserts, Coffee and Tea.
Topic: Recent Developments in the Quad City Water Rights
Speaker: Bob Alberts, City of Pasco, Public Works Director and Daryll Olsen to speak about the "no net loss policy" and his negotiations with the WA Department of Ecology. Bill KinselI will probably say a few words about what KID will do with their new water rights.

Place: Sea Galley Restaurant, Union Gap, WA [From I-82 West take Exit 36 to Valley Mall Blvd. Turn left (West) at the end of the ramp, stay on left lane and carry on straight. Sea Galley Restaurant is on the right at Rudkin Road junction a couple of hundred feet down, opposite Denny’s and ARCO. Turn right (North) at Rudkin Road junction and turn right again into Sea Galley parking.]
Topic: Maintaining Our Region’s Connection to the World Through Columbia River Commerce. The presentation will focus on the following topics:
- The importance of maintaining Columbia River maritime trade and our region's transportation infrastructure.
- National and regional economic and job benefits for deepening the channel 3-feet in approximately 3.5% of the entire Columbia River, and how the project affects individuals in your community.
- Environmental protections and benefits of the Columbia River estuary.
- Regulatory status of the authorization and approvals that have been made and that are currently in process by federal and state agencies from both Washington and Oregon.
- Funding status - Who is paying for the project and why?
