Region 4 Transition Report

by: Michael H. Wenning, PE

      Region 4 Director

(Serving on the National Board of Direction,

      Term runs to Fall, 2008)

October 2005

In the previous issue I wrote about the new Region 4. The bylaws and rules have now been crafted and drafted. The Board should approve these at their meeting in LA at the end of October. I want to thank and congratulate Ali Abufares who will be Indiana’s first Regional Governor. Ali will serve a two year term and will be a primary connection between Indiana Section members and the national Board.

The Region 4 Board of Governors will have its first meeting this fall. It is tentatively scheduled for November 18-19. At that time the Board will nominate an individual for Director in the 2006 elections. Ultimately this Director will be your representative sitting on the National Board of Directors for a 3-year term. Every 3 years the Indiana Section should be looking for leaders willing to step into the Director or Governor position.

We are lucky to have double representation on the National Board during this transition. I will be inducted as the final District 9 Director at the LA meeting and will serve for three years. That gives you another point of access. Please feel free to contact Ali or me with any ideas or concerns you have.

There is another way to serve that you should consider. Our Region has elected to have an Assembly of Delegates that will meet twice a year in conjunction with the Regional Board. The Indiana Section president and six other representatives will serve on this group. The purpose of the assembly is to provide more direct input from the membership and to have more people sharing information back to the branches. The first assembly meeting will be held in mid April. Another benefit is meeting people from branches throughout the Region and sharing ideas and concerns. Contact Theresa Harrison and let her know you want to help.

I realize that this doesn’t read like a Tom Clancy novel, but it really is just as exciting. You can make a difference in the decisions of your society. I once heard that the world is run by those that show up. I encourage you to show up and help make a difference.
