The Region 4 Assembly, which includes all members of the American
Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in the states of Arkansas, Indiana,
Kentucky and Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and
West Virginina has established a very meaningful and worthwhile
competition and award for a Younger Member who resides within the
Region. A Younger Member is defined as a member, associate member or
affiliate not over
35 years of age on February 01, in the year of the award. The award is
named after Daniel V. Terrell of the Kentucky Section. Dean Terrell was
President of National ASCE in 1954.
This award is presented annually for the
outstanding paper submitted on a topic established by the District 9
Council. The topic is the same topic that has been established for the national
Daniel W. Mead Contest.
It is not necessary that an entry be
made to both the Mead Contest and also to the Terrell Award. Two (2)
papers per Section may be entered in the Terrell Competition.
The winner of this award receives a very
nice bronze plaque in recognition of the time and effort put into this
competition.
If you desire additional information on
this subject please go to the Rules Page
or contact your Section Officers.
Editor's Note:
This large plaque is of bronze, cast with the winner's name, suitably
mounted on a wooden shield and is very
impressive (see photo above). It would look very nice on your office wall,
commanding the attention of everyone entering to your achievement. Mention
of this award in your resume would be a big plus! I urge all younger members
to consider making an entry. Typically very few people enter this
competition, consequently your chances of winning are enhanced.
