Rules Governing the
Daniel V. Terrell Competition
for 2008

Region 4 Assembly of the American Society of Civil Engineers is proud to conduct the Daniel V. Terrell Competition for Younger Members.

This prestigious competition has been held for over 50 years and commemorates Dean Terrell’s many years of work and service to the Society and especially of his leadership in the establishment of the District Nine Council.

All members, associate members or affiliates of ASCE 35 years of age or less on February 1, 2006, residing in Region 4, are eligible to submit papers in this competition. The following rules are to be observed:

bullet

The Daniel W. Mead topic and the Daniel V. Terrell have the same topic: “Is it Ethical to transfer risk of a construction project solely to the Contractor indemnifying the design engineer and owner?” These are two separate competitions but the same paper can be submitted to both.

bullet

No individual may submit more than one paper in any one annual competition. Please put your ASCE ID number and your name on the paper.

bullet

The paper shall be of such length that it can be presented orally in not more than fifteen minutes and contain not more than 2000 words.

bullet

Submit one typed copy of the paper to your Section President by May 1, 2006. Each section is limited to two entries.

bullet

The paper must be presented orally, by the author, before the Assembly at its August 25-26, 2006 meeting in Asheville, NC. Local sections customarily reimburse contestants for their expenses.

The award will consist of a large bronze plaque (shown above at right) cast with the winner’s name and suitably mounted on a wooden shield.
