2009 National Engineers Week Future City Competition - Maryland Region
The Maryland Region for the Future City Competition is currently recruiting engineers and engineering students interested in volunteering as mentors or judges for this year’s competition taking place at the Baltimore Museum of Industry in January 2009. This is a fun and rewarding way to network and give back to the community by helping 7th and 8th grade students better understand engineering and the challenges we face as engineers.
Future City is a non-profit national competition sponsored by the engineering community to promote technological literacy inspire middle school students to explore futuristic concepts and careers in engineering. The program strives to foster an interest in math, science, and engineering by engaging these students in a fun, hands-on competition focusing on real world applications in engineering and science. Students gain invaluable firsthand experience with problem solving skills, teamwork, research and presentation skills, and computer skills. They learn how engineering shapes the world around them and how the city and the environment they live in are affected by the decisions of engineers every day.
Anyone interested in helping out can contact Mark Bodmann or Ray Moravec at (410) 494-9093 or by email at

We can’t make this program a success without the local engineers that volunteer to help with our program.
