January Leadership Conference and YMC a Success! Thank You!
On January 11-12, the MD Section hosted the 2008 ASCE Regions 1, 2, 4, & 5 Leadership Conference in Downtown Baltimore. This occasion was the first time these four regions met as part of the same leadership conference. It was attended by over 400 ASCE members representing all 24 states encompassed by the associated member regions.
As part of the host section, the MD Younger Members were responsible for planning all aspects of the Younger Member Council. The MD Younger Members would like to thank the volunteers and sponsors who made the event a success.
Thank you to the speakers who volunteered their time to present their passions, teach lessons learned, and inspire continued professional engagement as part of the YMC. Thank you to Dave LaBella, P.E. for his informative presentation on the I-95 Express Toll Lanes project, to Karen Moran, P.E. and Stephan Butler, EIT for their presentations on Engineers’ Roles in Disaster Management and on the Committee on Critical Infrastructure, to Dr. Robert Traver, Ph.D, P.E for his presentation on Ethical and Management Lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina, and to Gina Beim, P.E. for her presentation on a new ASCE program dedicated to Career Development.

Finally, thank you to all the Section and Branch Leaders, Younger Members, Student Chapter Leaders, and ASCE staff who attended the Leadership Conference. The Maryland Section looks forward to next year’s conference in Cherry Hill, NJ.
