The Meeting was called to order by President Don
Mercer at 5:30 p.m.

Mercer produced some
correspondence.
Correspondence was reviewed
by the Board.
Treasurers Report
In Meyers delivered the
treasurer’s report
Skalski moved to accept the
treasurers report.

Old Business
Top Ten Projects
Mackinac Bridge Presentation- August 3, 2000
Hegarty
will be their for sure.
St. Clair River Railroad Tunnel Presentation- July 6,
2000
Chizek
will be their for sure.
Hegarty presented the Mackinac Bridge Picture limited
edition picture/scholarship idea. Including production of a limited edition
picture, solicitation of donations (picture
would be a gift in exchange for such donations) and creation of a scholarship fund of significant
proportions (approximately 0.01% the size of Hegarty’s
imagination…)
The Board responded with strong support.
Hegarty and Kendall agreed to serve as committee members.
Chizek agreed to contact Dan Fredendall to investigate if
he would be willing to work
with Hegarty and Kendall on the new Committee.
Kendall agreed to follow up with Fredendall.
Hegarty Requested that he be kept in the loop on
Fredendall’s response.
Hegarty move that the Board
authorize the committee to proceed with his plan

Web Page
Chizek indicated that the web page is on line as of this
meeting. However, the “hot link” through the ASCE national
page is not yet up. The page can be accessed at the following
address: http://www.asce.org/gsd/sections/michigan/default.htm
Chizek assured the Board that the page would be improving
and he welcomed all comments.
Public Affairs Grant 1999
No Report
Speakers Bureau Status
No Report
Chizek suggested a reminder (in the newsletter?) this
fall.
President at ASCE National
Meeting
Hegarty will have a report on available air fares next
month. The budget will have to be amended to accommodate.
Student Chapters Request for
Assistance
Chizek received an email from a recent MTU graduate. The information required by the Board has been forwarded on
to the MTU student chapter (host of the student
chapter annual competitions this year).
New Business
2001 Dues
Hegarty move to maintain the
current dues level
Skalski seconded
Motion Passed
National Fellow
It used to require the support of two fellows and a third
member to apply for “Fellow”
status. It now requires support of the
Section.
Annual Meeting
Hegarty will set up the leadership portion.
Sustainable Development
Evans provided an inspirational vision of sustainable
development for the Michigan
Section of ASCE and offered to spearhead this effort.
The Board gave Evans strong support and
encouragement. The Board further recognized and thanked Evans for his
strong continued involvement at the Section.

The date of the next meeting was set for July 13, 2000
