Call to Order

 

The Meeting was called to order by President Don Mercer at 5:30  p.m. 

 

In attendance;               Don Mercer, President

                                    Jim Hegarty, President-Elect

                                    Richard Skalski, Vice-President

Kamran Qadeer, Treasurer

Agenda

 

Mercer and Hegarty proposed revisions to the agenda including:

 

            Add under Old Business the following items:

 

I.       Opportunity Grant

 

            Add under New Business the following items:

 

B.    Airport Executives Request

C.    New Treasurer

D.    MI History Museum 

 

Chizek moved to adopt the Agenda as amended.

Skalski Seconded.

Meeting Minutes

 

            The following amendments were proposed to the minutes:

 

            Under Old Business- Top Ten Projects

 

            Replace          “Chizek agreed to talk with OHM and failing that MPS about use                                              of marking department resources to do something that was illegible                              in his notes.”

 

            With                 “Chizek agreed to talk with OHM and failing that MPS about use

                                    marketing department resources to design a solicitation package

                                    and logo for the Mackinac Bridge Scholarship Project

            Under Old Business- Speakers Bureau Status

 

            Delete              “Lions and Kiwannis have requested more books.  Meyers sent                                          some.”

 

            Under Old Business- Annual Meeting 2000

 

            Add                 “South” in Front of “Western”, So that it reads: “South Western                                                 Michigan’s golf outing was discussed.  It was a fantastic success                                                 raising $1400 for work with Western Michigan’s developing civil                                                 engineering program.”

 

            Under Email List

 

            Replace             “skalski@ci.kalamazoo.mi.us”

 

            With                 “skalskid@ci.kalamazoo.mi.us”

 

Hegarty moved to accept the minutes as amended.

Correspondence

 

Mercer produced some correspondence.

 

Correspondence was reviewed by the Board.

 

Treasurers Report

 

In Meyers delivered the treasurer’s report

 

Hegarty  moved to accept the treasurers report.

Chizek Seconded.

Old Business

 

Top Ten Projects

 

            Mackinaw Bridge Presentation went very well.  Mercer presented.  Hegarty             unveiled the scholarship program.

 

            MDOT Interstate Freeway Presentation went well.  Mercer presented.

 

            Ludington Pumped Storage Facility.  Hegarty Presented.

 

            By next meeting Chizek will contact Ford Rouge facility and Detroit Wastewater             Treatment plant.  Qadeer will contact the Tunnel and the Bridge.

 

Annual Meeting 2000

 

Hegarty Moved to appropriate $1200 to have Guy Snyder write an article on the annual meeting conditional on the article showing up in Michigan Contractor and Builder.

Web Page

 

            Material was passed to Chizek for incorporation, as appropriate, into the Web             Page.

 

Public Affairs Grant

 

            Will be a slide show with a tight focus on Western Michigan.  Could be used as a             template for other areas of the State.

 

Speakers Bureau Status

 

            Chizek is scheduled to speak to McDonald Public Library.

 

            Hegarty will send corrections to Meyers.

 

            Meyers will send an electronic copy to Chizek for the Web Page.

 

            Bruce Kuffer will take over as champion in the relatively near future.

 

            Chizek suggested that the project should refocus on electronic media to save             printing cost.

 

MDOT Membership

 

            10 new members from MDOT, more to come.

 

MCE discussion

 

             Meyers and Hegarty met prior to the regular Board meeting.

 

            Hegarty will amend his study and deliver in the Spring.

 

            Hegarty will investigate the cost of redesigning the template and having 3 good             project profiles and 2 good people profiles.  Pending general Board support.

 

            There was general Board support.

 

150th Celebration

 

Will be meeting the evening before our annual meeting.

 

 

 

Opportunity Grant

 

            Reminder that Money will be obtained when report is submitted.

 

           

New Business

 

District 7 Meeting September 23- Livonia Michigan

 

            District 7 Meeting will follow immediately after Annual Meeting.

 

            Regular Board meeting will occur from 7:30-8:30 a.m. on Friday September 23             over Breakfast at the Dearborn Inn.

 

Airport Executives Request

 

Chizek Moved that the Michigan Section Board supports the concept of having 1 cent of the current 6 cent sales and use tax collected on aircraft sales, aircraft parts, aviation fuels and airport concessions be deposited in the aeronautics fund.

Skalski Supported.

Michigan Historical Museum

            The date of the next meeting was set for September 22, 2000 at 7:30 a.m.
