Many countries have outstanding structures that have existed long before
there was a United States. With that heritage comes a duty to conserve and
restore these structures. This presentation includes first-hand accounts of
various sites throughout Europe and Turkey where our speaker has traveled
or worked, including churches and castles in Germany, France, and the Czech
Republic and colosseums for the Roman Empire in Italy and Turkey. Each has
conservation challenges for protecting our built heritage.
David Biggs specializes in masonry design and restoration, forensic engineer-
ing and disaster assessment. He is a Distinguished Member of ASCE and is a
past President of the Mohawk-Hudson Section and ASCE Director. He works
Internationally with current restoration projects in Turkey and Nepal.
