This page has been established to recognize our Sections’ Fellows and Honorees.

 

A Fellow is ASCE Fellow grade is the second-highest membership grade, after that of Distinguished Member.  This grade represents a recognized level of professional distinction and achievement, per the established guidelines:

1. have at least 10 years exceptional responsible charge of engineering experience gain while at Member grade,

2. be a licensed Professional Engineer or Land Surveyor,

3. be nominated by an ASCE Organizational Entity,

4. have 3 testimonial references (from at least 2 ASCE Fellows and 1 ASCE Member).

Col Stephen J. Ressler, Ph.D, P.E., Hon. M. ASCE is recognized for the advancement of engineering education and outreach through innovative use of information technology tools, and through the promotion of teaching improvement among civil engineering faculty. As a faculty member at the U.S. Military Academy, Colonel Ressler conceived and developed computer software which evolved into, and formed the basis for, the West Point Bridge Design Contest.

David T. Biggs, P.E., Hon. M.ASCE is recognized for his advancement of structural masonry engineering through innovative code development and engineering design and restoration, and the sharing of this knowledge through service and contributions to the public. Mr. Biggs has made major contributions to codes, standards and guidelines in the area of masonry design and construction.

Grades and Qualifications.

Membership in the Society is available worldwide to civil engineers, civil engineering students, and other persons similarly qualified in another branch of engineering or in an allied profession.

 

The voting membership grades of the Society shall be

 Associate Member,

Member,

Fellow, and

Honorary Member.

 

The non-voting membership grades of the Society shall be

Student Member and

Affiliate Member.

The rights, privileges, responsibilities and qualifications of membership shall be set forth in the Society's Bylaws and/or other appropriate governing documents.

Mohawk-Hudson Section honors Francis Griggs and Robert Kamp with Meritorious Service Award at Annual Dinner

Francis E. Griggs, Jr., PhD., PE, LS, F. ASCE and Robert N. Kamp, PE, F. ASCE have been awarded the Meritorious Service Award for the Mohawk-Hudson Section. They will be honored at the Annual Dinner in May.  Francis E. Griggs, Jr. received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Masters of Science and Master of Civil Engineering from RPI.  He also received his doctor of Engineering from RPI in 1967.  He was the Professor of Civil Engineering and Chairman of the Department at Union College from 1979 to 1985.  He served as Professor of civil Engineering at Merrimack College from 1970 to 1979 and Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department and Chairman of the Division of Engineering from 1965 to 1979.  He also served as Professor of Civil Engineering and Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at Merrimack College from 1990 to 1995.  He has also worked in the private sector.  Frank is a fellow member of ASCE, a member of NSPE, ASEE.  He has served on numerous ASCE committees, one being the National History and Heritage Committee.  He was a past member and Chairman of the National ASCE Committee on Student Services.  He has written numerous publications and continues to contribute to the Mohawk-Hudson Section’s History & Heritage Section.

 

Robert N. Kamp received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Syracuse University in 1950.  He began his career working for the New York State Department Public Works in District 3 and 4. He was the Senior Civil Engineer from 1959 to 1961 for the New York State Department of Public Works, District 4, in Rochester, NY. He was the Director of the New York State Barge Canal System, New York State Department of Transportation from 1967 to 1970 and Assistant Director of Structures Design and Construction Division, New York State Department of Transportation from 1970 to 1983.  He has also worked in the private sector.   Robert is a fellow member of ASCE, serving as President for the Rochester Section, has served as Chairman of the Transportation Group of the Mohawk-Hudson Section.  He is also a life member of the Albany Society of Engineers, serving as President in 1999.  He is a life member of New York State Association of Transportation Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers. He has served as President of the Eastern NY Chapter of the American Consulting Engineers Counc
