HILL BUILDING
Durham, North Carolina
Located at the intersection of Main Street and Coccoran Street , this 17-story modernistic skyscaper built in 1935 was designed by New York City Architecture firm Shreve, Lamb & Harmon (better known for the design of the New York City Skyscraper - the Empire State Building).
The building is outfitted with Art Deco ornamentation, interior fluted doors and an exquistirely crafted letter box. The building is in the heart of downtown Durham. The Hill building is presently home to Durham-based Central Carolina Bank, one of the most successful in the state.
Directions to the building:
From the Durham Freeway (NC147), take exit 12B, for Roxboro Street/Mangum Street. At the traffic light, turn right onto South Roxboro Street. Turn left onto Pettigrew Street. Turn right onto Blackwell Street. Cross over the railroad tracks. Blackwell Street turns into Corcoran Street. The Hill Building will be on your left at the intersection of Main & Corcoran Streets.
