SEI May Dinner Meeting: Introduction to Structural Engineering Law - 1.0 PDH

This seminar will provide engineers, design professionals, and others involved in the construction industry with an introductory overview of the legal infrastructure governing their profession. This introduction to the law will provide a basic explanation of certain legal concepts, discuss pertinent statutes, regulations, and case law concerning the engineering profession and/or construction industry, and include commentary regarding risk management considerations. Through this introduction, attendees will gain an understanding of how their profession and responsibilities as a licensed professional or employee of their company fits within society’s legal framework. In addition, attendees will be better equipped to make informed risk management decisions, spot potential issues, and have the awareness to contact an attorney and/or their company’s executive committee if/when potential issues arise.

Mike Zettlemoyer, Esq. - Mr. Zettlemoyer earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree and a Master of Civil Engineering degree from the University of Delaware. Before earning his law degree from Drexel University School of Law, Mr. Zettlemoyer practiced structural engineering for a firm in the Lehigh Valley. Michael J. Zettlemoyer’s legal practice draws on his engineering and legal education and experience and focuses on the representation of design professionals and others involved in the construction industry.

Michael McCarter, Esq. - Mr. McCarter received his Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Juris Doctorate from Villanova University School of Law. Mr. McCarter’s practice focuses primarily on the representation of design professionals and construction litigation.

Mr. Zettlemoyer and Mr. McCarter have substantial experience litigating complex claims involving construction casualties and accidents, professional negligence, and products liability. They are both licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
