SEI Presents: Nonlinear Time History Analysis in RFEM with Machine Induced Vibrations (1 PDH)

Event From Date
Thursday, September 27, 2018 - 05:30 PM

Occasionally, structures may be susceptible to external vibrations such as people walking, rotating machine equipment, or even blast loading. In order to assess the impact these external loads may have on the structure, a time history analysis is needed. Many applications capable of running a time history analysis may be limited to a linear analysis only. Dlubal Software’s FEA program RFEM has recently added nonlinear time history analysis to eliminate any linear restrictions. This presentation will apply a nonlinear time history analysis on an industrial steel structure with consideration of machine induced vibrations. Linear vs. nonlinear time history will be explored and how this can influence the result output. Furthermore, the structure’s natural frequencies will be compared to the induced vibrations to determine if resonance is an issue or if acceleration limits are exceeded requiring structure modifications.

Speaker(s)

Amy Heilig, PE - Amy is the CEO of Dlubal Software, Inc. located in Philadelphia, PA. Amy attended Colorado State University for her bachelor’s degree before relocating to the University of Texas in Austin to earn her master’s. After completing college, she spent several years in design engineering at Contech Engineered Solutions as well as AECOM (formally UBS) in Denver, CO. She moved into the structural analysis and design software industry with RISA Technologies in Foothill Ranch, CA for 2 year as an applications engineer. The opportunity to join Dlubal Software came about in 2015 when the parent company in Teifenbach, Germany was exploring the opportunity to open a subsidiary office in the USA to provide closer customer relations to existing users and to emerge into the North American market as a key competitor. In addition to opening the Philadelphia office, she provides sales, technical support, and continues to aid in the development of Dlubal Software programs for the American and Canadian market.
