UPCOMING POROUS CONCRETE PAVEMENT SEMINAR

The Southern Idaho Section is working with the Portland Cement Association to bring a Porous Concrete Pavement Seminar to Boise in June 2008.

This seminar has been tentatively set to provide a ½ day design seminar, and a 1 ½ day contractor certification class.

The seminar and test project will be held on the Mountain View High School campus, located at Overland and Millennium way. The location of the project will help complete a project on campus that the school has been trying to get done for about 3 years. This is another instance of ASCE and the Contracting community working together to support their local communities.

Watch for upcoming emails and flyers on this seminar.

FUTURE CITY COMPETION HELD

The 4th Annual Idaho Future City was head January 12, 2008 at BSU. Seventeen (17) schools participated from Idaho, Utah & Oregon. Thanks to the support of the local engineering community, this was once again a successful project.

The Future City Competition is an educational program for 7th and 8th graders where they design a city using SimCity software, make a scale model of part of their city, write an essay, and give a presentation on their city. An engineer mentor works with the team during the preparation for the competition. In its 16th year nationally, the Future City Competition is a proven program that helps encourage students to pursue engineering careers and helps teachers meet science, math, social studies, arts, and language art curriculum requirements.

If you are interested in helping next year, please contact Erika Stoddard (Erika.Stoddard@itd.idaho.gov). Additional information on Idaho's Future City Competition as well as the National level of competition can be found at Future City Idaho Regional Web Site (www.futurecityidaho.org) or www.futurecity.org.

We encourage you to check out our Web page for more information.  This is a joint effort between ASCE Southern Idaho Section, ISPE, and Boise State University College of Engineering.
