Joint ASCE-AEG Meeting: Doty Fault

Wednesday, April 17, 2019 - 06:00 PM

Our April Section meeting will be with the Association of Engineering Geologists (AEG). The speaker will be Megan Anderson, an earthquake geophysicist at the Washington Geological Survey. Megan majored in geology at Carleton College in Minnesota and studied subduction processes and earthquakes in South America for her Ph.D. at the University of Arizona. She taught for 10 years at Colorado College before making her home at the WGS in Olympia.

She will be discussing what geophysics and geologic mapping have revealed to be a potentially active fault in southwest Washington called the Doty Fault. Her presentation will compare what has been learned about the Doty fault to the documented active Seattle fault and give some fresh ideas about its function accommodating active deformation within southwest Washington.

Lance Mearig, an ASCE Region 8 Governor, also plans to be in attendance and is excited to hear from and address the membership. We are very excited to partner with AEG to organize this event at the Pelligrino's Event Center in Tumwater. This is the first of what we hope will be an annual occurrence and if you are familiar with Pelligrino's, it goes without saying that it will be an excellent dinner.
