Spring Technical Conference

The Fox River Valley Branch cordially invites you to attend the 2010 ASCE Wisconsin Section Spring Technical Conference. The venue this year will be in Green Bay at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center.

We wish to thank the Technical Committee Chairs for choosing a fine variety of technical presentations, ranging from rehabilitation of the North Lion Bridge in Milwaukee, WI to combined sewer overflow reduction using green infrastructure in Toledo, OH. We are confident that there are topics of interest for everyone.

The bill is still awaiting the committee hearing process in the Senate Committee: Labor, Elections and Urban Affairs, chairman: Senator Spencer Coggs. The bill was scheduled for hearing, but was canceled. We still have expectations that the bill will be scheduled and passed this session. For more information on the bill see the link below.

2009 SECTION ANNUAL MEETING

The Southeast Branch invites you to the 2009 American Society of Civil Engineers Wisconsin Section Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting will be held at the Olympia Resort and Conference Center located in easily-accessible Oconomowoc.

The Technical Committee Chairs have provided a fine variety of technical presentations. Also new to the Annual Meeting will be a session devoted to a roundtable discussion about the state of Wisconsin dams. The General Session speaker will be Kevin Western from the Minnesota DOT, who will give a presentation on the I35W Bridge Replacement. This is sure to interest almost all types of Civil Engineers as it covers Structural, Construction and Management, and Transportation and Urban Planning.

We look forward to having you join us on Friday, September 11.

ASCE Computing in Civil Engineering Award

ASCE is pleased to advise you that Teresa M. Adams, Ph.D., F.ASCE, a member of the Southwest Branch of the Wisconsin Section, has been selected to receive the 2009 Computing in Civil Engineering Award.

The 2009 Computing in Civil Engineering Award is presented to Teresa M. Adams, Ph.D., F.ASCE, for her contributions to computing in Civil Engineering, specifically the use of position-based information to model transportation facilities and systems. Teresa Adams is a national leader in directing and obtaining funding for both the Wisconsin Transportation Center and the National University Transportation Center for Freight Infrastructure Research and Education. She has received financial support for research and for the establishment and maintenance of centers that support education and outreach. In doing so she has brought significant resources to bear on problems of interest to ASCE, to TCCIT, and to the computing community. Teresa has also been recognized by ASCE and by TCCIT for serving on committees and for serving in committee and conferences leadership roles. She has been the secretary, vice chair, and chairperson of the Executive Committee of the TCCIT. Teresa has also served on numerous TCCIT committees including the education committee, the database and information management committee, and the artificial intelligence and expert systems committee. Finally she has been recognized by the Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering through its best paper award for having submitted an outstanding paper and also for serving as a member of its editorial board. Additionally, she has also served as the editor or associate editor for two of its Computing in Civil Engineering Congress proceedings. Teresa's journal publications illustrate how effectively and how broadly she has had an impact on the use of computers in the practice of civil engineering. Teresa's work has and continues to touch upon a variety of computing areas including neural networks, fuzzy systems, and expert systems; spatial data; Geographic Information Systems; data integration; and object oriented data modeling

ASCE Edmund Friedman Award

ASCE is pleased to advise you that Brian Udovich, P.E., M.ASCE, a member of the Southeast Branch of the Wisconsin Section, has been selected to receive the 2009 Edmund Friendman Younger Engineer Award for Professional Achievement.

Brian Udovich has been contributing to ASCE since his days as a student member. He served the Wisconsin Section Younger Member Group, and has completed the presidential rotation for the Southeast Branch. Brian is currently Section Director- At-Large. In addition, he is a former corresponding member to the Committee on Younger members and is a member of the Transportation and Development Institute’s Transportation Safety Committee. Brian is also a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Chi Epsilon, and Tau Beta Pi. He regularly assists in student outreach programs, from Project Lead the Way to Future City and MathCounts. Brian is a project manager for R.A. Smith National, Inc. in the greater Milwaukee area. He specializes in transportation and traffic engineering, with experience in rural and urban roadways, traffic, subdivision/development, and a variety of studies. In addition, he is a guest lecturer at Marquette University. Brian received his BS from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and his MS from Marquette University. He is licensed in the state of Wisconsin. In addition, he received the Martin Bruening Award from ITE for a published technical paper entitled “Managed Lanes: Managing to Improve our freeways” in 2005. Brian has been a leader in the Wisconsin Section, the Southeast Branch, and in community activities.
