4th Annual Civil and Environmental Engineering Distinguished Alumni Lecture

G. John Kurgan, PE, will be the guest speaker for the 4th Annual Civil and Environmental Engineering Distinguished Alumni Lecture.

Kurgan will present “Things You Did Not Learn in Your Civil Engineering Classes.”

Kurgan earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Penn State in 1971 and returned to earn his master’s degree in 1974.

Kurgan is the former Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President at Michael Baker Corporation where his long career centered on the transportation market sector. During his tenure with Baker he was instrumental in expanding the company’s transportation practice beyond the Pittsburgh, PA region to create a national and international presence.

In recognition of his distinguished career, Kurgan was named the 2007 Engineer of the Year by the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania. He was also recognized by Penn State with the Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award in 2011.

He is currently a Principal in G. John Kurgan, LLC., a consulting firm that focuses on market strategies and mergers and acquisitions. Kurgan splits his time between Pawley’s Island, South Carolina and State College, Pennsylvania.
