THE BRIDGE “STATE OF THE STATE”
Kristin Langer was named PennDOT’s Chief Bridge Engineer in September 2024. Previously, she was one of the Assistant Chief Bridge Engineers since 2009. She has
been with the Department since 2008 but has 15 years of experience in bridge design and inspection from the consulting world prior to coming to PennDOT’s Central Office. Kris is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY where she received her BS in Civil Engineering with concentrations in both Structures and Transportation.
This presentation will focus on PennDOT’s bridge resiliency initiatives, recent updates on the bridge inspection guidelines, the latest changes to the bridge design and construction standards, newly approved bridge products, and recent research topics. Kristen will also provide an overview of her experience, and philosophy on the future direction of PennDOT’s Bureau of Bridge.
