The Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award is given in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, dedicated ASCE leadership and commitment to serving others and the community. The candidates are nominated by the Civil Engineering faculty at UD and Cedarville University for the Outstanding Senior Award and then interviewed by the ASCE Dayton Section Education Committee.  

 

2025 Outstanding Senior Awards

The UD nominees were Tim Heflin and Ethan Hegg. The CU nominees were Josh Weber and Anna Tanner.

The 2025 Outstanding Senior Awards were presented to Tim Heflin and Anna Tanner in June 2025.

 

At UD, Timothy Heflin has taken on many leadership Tim Heflin, headshotroles including President of the ASCE Student Chapter, Captain of the Steel Bridge Team, and Treasurer of the newly formed Engineering Club Student Council, among many others. Tim has been involved in rebuilding the ASCE student chapter after a significant loss of membership during COVID-19. Tim led the steel bridge team in its second year back at competition, and the team won 3 awards at the regional competition, despite being new. 

During the Summer of 2024, Tim worked as a Structural Engineering Intern at Paul J. Ford and Co. in Columbus. He is also enrolled in the Bachelors Plus Masters program at UD, an accelerated program that allowed him to start working towards his masters degree as an undergraduate. This program will enable him to earn his masters degree incredibly early. Additionally, Tim has accepted a position as a Structural engineer at LJB's headquarters in Miamisburg, where he will work in the buildings division. Outside of academics and his career, Tim enjoys a host of hobbies including running, rock climbing, playing viola, building Legos, camping, and more.

 

Anna Tanner, headshot

Anna Tanner primarily grew up next to the beautiful mountains in Colorado. She enjoys outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and playing tennis. Cedarville University provides a unique combination of a dedicated Christian environment and excellent engineering program, two critical components that Anna was looking for in a college. After four years, she is excited to graduate in May 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Engineering specialization. She will be moving to Charleston, South Carolina with her husband where she will start full-time with Southern Consulting and Engineering working on structural design of timber and steel construction for commercial and residential projects.

My name is Ethan Hegg, and I am from Columbus, Ohio. Ethan Hegg, headshotI am currently a senior civil engineering student at the University of Dayton and will be graduating this May.
