(Structural Engineering Institute Event) Gerdau Ameristeel Steel Rolling Plant Tour – Wilton, IA, 5:30 pm, PDH credit available

Tuesday, October 29, 2013 - 06:30 PM

Gerdau Ameristeel is one of the largest steel producers in the United States as well as in the world. The steel rolling mill in Wilton was originally constructed in 1974 with an annual capacity of 150,000 tons of long bar products. Since then, the capacity has increased to an annual capacity of 320,000 tons of finished products. The facility consists of a melt shop to make steel billets, a rolling mill which consists of 16 intermediate and finishing mills, and a bundling shop. The finished products include angles, flat plate, leaf springs and round-cornered squares for axles. We’ve timed this tour to maximize our chance of seeing angle rolling, although the rolling schedule is subject to change.
