Join us for a site tour of a new marina in Rock Island on September 24 at 6 pm.

See below for more information.

The purpose of this transient  dock project is to reconnect residents, visitors, and transient boaters to the Mississippi River and land-based features. It is also a goal of this project to support alternative means of transportation such as boat, public transportation, and bicycle and pedestrian.  All of these are available at the proposed docks or nearby facilities, such as the bike path or the visitor's center. It is also believed that the approval of this project and its subsequent construction will increase the use of Schwiebert Riverfront Park as well as promote reinvestment in The District. This new project will also enhance the area's tax base. Ultimately this project will support residential and commercial development in the city and a vibrant downtown.

The objective of this project is to build a 23 slip, 6,000 square foot transient boat dock to accommodate vessels of 26 foot or longer within an enclosed floating breakwater.  Slips include:  (8) forty foot boat slips, (6) thirty foot boat slips, and (9) twenty-six foot boat slips.  Alternate work includes piling and gangway systems to access dock, safety lighting and maintenance power, shore side facilities including marina overlook with lighted trellis shade structure, access gate with entry at top of gangway, fire protection water line extension, and debris boom upstream and shore side anchorage.

The primary benefits of completion of this proposed project include but are not limited to:

1.        Providing a dock in Downtown Rock Island that would be used by transient boaters who frequent local marinas or those travelling long distances on the Mississippi River.

2.       This project would achieve alternate means of transportation and link with the City of Davenport as identified in the RiverVision plan.

3.       Transient boaters will have access to facilities at Schwiebert Riverfront Park (restrooms and park amenities) and stores, shops, restaurants, galleries, etc. in Rock Island's Arts and Entertainment District.
