March 2018 - Smart Roadway Technology
About 36 people attended the ASCE Cincinnati March section meeting for a presentation on Smart Roadway Technology in Ohio by Nick Hegemier of ODOT. ODOT and DriveOhio along with many public and private organizations across Ohio are engaged in the research, development and testing of autonomous and connected vehicle technologies. These new technological advancements will decreasing traffic accidents and fatalities and increasing highway efficiency state wide. The meeting started with a tour of the iSPACE STEM learning center located at 100 Scarlet Oaks Drive Cincinnati, OH 45241. The facility is a nonprofit organization that provides engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs to schools, families and the community in the Greater Cincinnati Region - to help students and educators build confidence and interest in STEM knowledge and STEM-related careers. iSPACE makes an impact in over 500 classrooms yearly and are aligned with national and state educational standards and complement teaching curricula. Their programs complement educational standards by reaching beyond the formal classroom setting to spark curiosity and inspire interest in STEM. Dinner was catered by Jim Dandy's Family BBQ
