September 2017 - GCWW Facility Tour

Thursday, September 21, 2017 - 04:15 AM

Over 50 people participated in this the opening Section meeting of the 2017-2018 program year. Thanks to all who joined the ASCE Cincinnati Section for a very interesting dual tour and presentation on the Greater Cincinnati Water Works facilities (Old River Station and the Richard Miller Treatment Plant). Old River Station is home to four of the world's largest triple expansion, crank and flywheel water pumping steam engines and the state-of-the-art Richard Miller Treatment Plant is a pioneer of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) and rapid sand filter treatment in the United States. Leland Hite, Larry Moster, Jeff Vogt and Ying Hong led the tours of the two facilities.

After the tours, the group crossed the street to the California Golf Course where Mr. Hite followed with a presentation about the history of construction and technical details of the Old River Station.  During the presentation, the California Golf Course served a catered dinner to the meeting attendees.
