February 2018 - Great Coasters - Mystic Timbers Design Presentation
About 75 people attended the joint SEAoO / ASCE Cincinnati Section meeting held on Cincinnati State’s campus. Mr. Adam House of Great Coasters International spoke about Kings Island’s latest attraction - Mystic Timbers. Mr. House explored the project from planning stages through final construction and provided answers about all things in between. This massive wooden rollercoaster stands 109 feet tall sending brave passengers along 3,265 feet of track at up to 53 MPH. The impressive structure used approximately 330,000 board feet of southern yellow lumber; 30,000 pounds of nails; 88,000 bolts and washers and 5,500 cubic yards of concrete for the foundation!
Those who attended the February section meeting were treated to a tremendous technical presentation and an equally delicious meal provided by Cincinnati State’s Culinary Institute.
