November 2018 – Kroger Building at Court & Walnut in Cincinnati, Ohio
The ASCE Cincinnati Section hosted a tour and meeting on the new Kroger Building project at Court & Walnut on Thursday, November 15, 2018. The project is an 18-story building that will include a Kroger grocery store in the heart of downtown Cincinnati.
This project is a partnership between Kroger, 3CDC, North American Properties, Northpointe Group, and Rookwood Properties. Construction is underway on the 18-story mixed-used development. The project will include a full-service 45,000 SF Kroger grocery store on the first floor, a restaurant/bar and wine/beer sales on the second floor, a 560-space parking garage, and 139 market rate apartments. Construction is scheduled for completion by September 2019.
The tour and presentation will be provided by Matt Horne and Adam Knaack, with Schaefer, the project structural engineer; and Lee Groh, with Turner, the project construction manager.
- Matt Horne is the structural project manager for the Court & Walnut Project and is responsible to collaborate with the design team to oversee and deliver the structural design. Matt earned a Master of Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Science from University of Notre Dame. He has been with Schaefer for seven years and has fourteen years of experience.
- Adam Knaack is structural project engineer for the Court & Walnut Project, focusing on the building frame and foundation design. He has a PhD from University of Notre Dame, Adam where researched the use of recycled concrete for more sustainable designs. Adam also has a Master of Science from University of Notre Dame and a Bachelor of Science from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He’s been a member of Schaefer’s team for five years.
- Lee Groh is the Senior Project Manager on the Court & Walnut Project, leads, directs and coordinates the overall management of the project construction team. Lee joined Turner 12 years ago. Prior to joining Turner Lee spent 19 years managing projects in the Water and Wastewater Industry. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from the University of Cincinnati. Lee, his wife Kathy, 4 children and multiple grandchildren are lifelong Cincinnati residents.
The tour began at 4:45 PM at the project site field office at 56 E. Court Street. After the tour, the ASCE meeting continued in the courtyard area of Arnold’s Bar and Grill on 210 East Eighth Street in Cincinnati and included dinner and a presentation.
