February 2019 - Engineering Ethics
The presentation topic for the ASCE Cincinnati Section February meeting was Engineering Ethics. Ohio’s professional engineers and professional surveyors are required to complete two hours of the 30 hour biennial continuing professional development requirement in professional ethics or rules relevant to the practices of engineering or surveying. February meeting attendees received one PDH for ethics to fulfill part of that requirement. The meeting wias held at Scarlet Oaks facility in the Sharonville area of Cincinnati.
The presentation included a summary of Ohio's Code of Ethics for Professional Engineers and Surveyors, provided an overview of the provisions of the Code of Ethics, and presented some practical examples of how the Code is applicable for everyday practice.
The presentation was given by Michael Pniewski, P.E., P.S. Chief Deputy Lucas County Engineer. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in 5 states and one Canadian province, and a licensed professional surveyor in 3 states. In addition, he is an adjunct professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Toledo. Currently, Mike is President of the ASCE Toledo Section, and serves on the Society's Committee on Student members. He has a BS and MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan, a BS in Land Surveying from Michigan Technological University and an MBA from Bowling Green State University.
