The Lick Run VCS is part of the Lower Mill Creek Partial Remedy designed to significantly reduce combined sewer overflows that discharge into the Mill Creek through Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) 5. CSO 5 is the largest volume overflow in MSD’s service area. The Lick Run watershed covers approximately 2,900 acres on Cincinnati’s west side and includes the neighborhood of South Fairmount and portions of East Price Hill, West Price Hill and Westwood. The focus of this project is to keep stormwater out of the combined sewer system through a variety of infrastructure projects across the watershed and the creation of a mile-long constructed waterway that will mimic a natural stream.
Construction of the $96 million Lick Run VCS project in the Cincinnati neighborhood of South Fairmount began in July 2017 and will be substantially completed by spring 2020. The lead design firm for the project was Strand Associates, the Program Manager is Stantec Consulting Services, the Construction Manager is MWH Constructors, and the Construction Contractor is Kokosing Industrial.
