Design-bid-build emergency repair contract let within 5 days of incident on critical infrastructure?

Learn from Anna all about the rapid response to assess the condition of the structure and the scope of repairs required to ensure the safety of the traveling public. A multipronged collaborative effort led by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) included teams working on inspection, design, MOT, public awareness, and procurement.  The remarkable efforts of these individuals resulted in a design-bid-build emergency repair contract let within 5 days after the incident.  Among the issues that the owner had to contend with were the uncertainty of the extent of damage and heat of the fire relative to any potential damage to the steel and concrete structure. Before the field team was able to access the structure due to the cleanup, the Project Team was already combing through as-builts, inspection reports, load ratings, and original design drawings to determine load paths and critical details for the inspection team to focus on in the field....

Anna Klenke, PE – Michael Baker International

Ms. Klenke is the Structures Department Manager with Michael Baker International in Louisville.  Anna joined Michael Baker in 2012 as a Structural Engineer.  Anna has been involved with the design, design review, construction support, type selections, design-build projects, and maintenance and inspection activities on a wide array of bridge types and project scales.  These include the new basket-handled tied arches in the Land Between the Lakes, I-MOVE KY, the US 51 Bridge over the Ohio River Bridge Type Study, and the Brent Spence Emergency Bridge Repair.  Anna has also been involved in various bridge inspections, rehabilitation projects, and load rating trusses, arches prestressed and steel girder bridges throughout the state of Kentucky.  Anna is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Women Engineers and has served with Bridges to Prosperity and Engineers Without Borders. Anna received her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from West Virginia University in 2010 and her Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in 2012. Anna is originally from Ohio and now resides in Louisville, Kentucky, with her Great Dane, Jude.
