Engineering Career

I decided to be an engineer because my HS guidance counselor thought it would be a good choice.  I don’t think I ever sufficiently thanked him!  I began at the University of Detroit in the Computer Engineering Program and finished at Maine in 1976.  Six years of college and never took a computer course.  My first job was at E.C. Jordan in Portland which lasted 10 years after which John Sevee and I founded Sevee & Maher Engineers.  Thirty two years later here I am.  What a ride!!  I cannot say enough about the experiences I have had and the interesting people I have met during my career as a Civil Engineer.  A good friend who is no longer with us used to tell his three young daughters (when they asked him what a Civil Engineer does) that “Civil Engineers keep the world running.”
