ASCE Seattle EWRI Committee Meeting

Thursday, January 20, 2022 - 12:00 PM - Thursday, January 20, 2022 - 01:00 PM

Why is 2D modeling important? In 2017, FHWA began to include 2D modeling in their Collaborative Hydraulics: Advancing to the Next Generation of Engineering (CHANGE) training which is part of the Every Day Counts (EDC) program. This began the shift to advance many state transportation agencies and is why WSDOT adopted 2D modeling approximately in 2019 for new bridge and fish passage projects. This presentation will discuss the hydraulic engineering services using the Sedimentation and River Hydraulic- Two-Dimensional (SRH-2D) model. Including what the model requires for input information and what kind of output the program can generate. The discussion will cover water surface elevation, velocity, and scour, plus go over vertical clearance and channel migration zone criteria that are important to consider on these projects.
