TOPIC: An Alternative Perspective on Engineering Ethics and Professional Practice

This presentation discusses man’s dream to conquer long spans; the origins of aerodynamics used in flight and long span bridge research. Specific examples cited are New York’s Four East River long span bridge crossings, i.e., one steel cantilever structure and three suspension bridges. It also credits the appropriate engineering professionals directly involved in the designs and implementation of technology.

Henry W Hessing, PE, F ASCE, VP SCSPE Catawba Chapter has over 50 years of experience in construction management, resident engineering, design engineering, and transportation planning for new and rehabilitated highways, bridges, rail line segments, aviation and transit facilities, and utilities. Mr. Hessing has written 15 technical papers for publication in engineering journals and presentations at technical conferences.  He holds an M.S. in Transportation Planning from Polytechnic Institute of New York and a B.S. in Engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is a licensed professional engineer in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and North Carolina. He is a Viet Nam War veteran.
