Sunshine Trakas, PE - Director of Public Works, Dorchester County

Sunshine Trakas earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of South Carolina in 2003 and is a registered professional engineer with over 25 years of engineering and management experience. Sunshine worked in engineering consulting for 11 years before joining County government in 2014. In her current role as Director of Public Works for Dorchester County, Sunshine oversees multiple divisions including Solid Waste, Roads, Stormwater, Field Operations, and Transportation. In addition, Sunshine is still wearing the Transportation Development Manager hat which is responsible for managing Dorchester County’s Transportation Sales Tax Program and projects which include road widening, streetscaping, intersection improvements, bridge replacements, and dirt road paving. She also administers the County’s Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) Program and is working to develop their Pavement Management Program.
