TOPIC: Charleston County's Transportation Tax Program

Charleston County's presentation will highlight what has been accomplished over the last 2 decades with the Transportation Sales Tax funds and will discuss what infrastructure, transit, and greenspace investments the community would like to see in a potential future extension of the Transportation Sales Tax.

Devri DeToma, Deputy Director of Public Works,  Charleston County

Devri DeToma is a proud South Carolina native and a 2001 graduate of The Citadel, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. A licensed professional engineer in both South Carolina and Florida, she currently serves as the Deputy Director of Public Works.

Devri began her career with the county nearly twenty years ago as a staff engineer, developing road improvement design plans. She later advanced to manage several high-profile Transportation Sales Tax projects, overseeing budgets of up to $50 million.

Her leadership and technical expertise led to her promotion to Capital Projects Program Manager, where she directed teams of engineers, inspectors, and project managers responsible for delivering more than 100 projects valued at over $2 billion.

In her current role as Deputy Director of Public Works, Devri oversees a broad range of operations, including Field Operations, Stormwater Management, Asset Management, and Mosquito Control.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the fields of transportation and public works, Devri was honored with the WTS (Women’s Transportation Seminar)Woman of the Year Award in 2022.
