TOPIC: What the Monarch Butterfly Listing Means to You
Updates on the proposal of the Monarch Butterfly being covered under the Endangered Species Act, and how it will affect project permitting moving forward. Additionally, a discussion on compensatory mitigation and banking in the region.
Scott Miller, PE is an Associate Project Restoration Engineer for SWCA’s Charlotte office, where he manages staff and leads design efforts on a variety of natural resource and ecological restoration projects. Scott has a diversity of flood modeling, water resource management, stream design, and mitigation experience across South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Across the country, Scott has restored over 20 miles of stream and over 10,000 acres of wetlands. He knows the process of compensatory mitigation in SC extensively, and can support any of your compensatory mitigation and permitting needs, including banking, PRM, or ILF site formats.
Simon King, is an associate project ecologist with a diverse skill set working at the interface of natural resource surveys, site feasibility studies, technical writing, permitting, and project management, and Species Surveys. He has worked on a variety of exciting projects, ranging from solar development, renewable natural gas derived from animal waste, and natural resource management for lithium mines. His experience spans the full project life cycle, including initial site feasibility studies, natural resource surveys, 404/401 permitting, Sec. 7 ESA consultation, and post-construction monitoring. He has conducted numerous wetland delineations and rare, threatened, and endangered habitat and species surveys in multiple states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Tennessee, Maryland, and New York.
Matthew Zoss has over 22 years of practice as an environmental consultant and project manager with planning and permitting experience in rail and transportation projects, and energy and electric transmission infrastructure. Matthew has demonstrated leadership and professional excellence with the ability to manage multidisciplinary projects, resolve complex issues, and build rapport among multiple regulatory agencies, non-governmental agencies, and private stakeholders with conflicting interests. He maintains a comprehensive professional commitment that results in successful project management, innovative business marketing, effective communication, ongoing examination of industry standards, and dynamic technical writing.
