TOPIC: An Alternative Perspective on Engineering Ethics and Professional Practice
This presentation explores humanity’s pursuit of longer bridge spans and the engineering innovations that made them possible. Attendees will learn how advances in aerodynamics, many of which were developed through aviation and long-span bridge research, have influenced modern bridge design. Using New York City’s East River crossings—including one cantilever bridge and three suspension bridges—as case studies, the presentation highlights the contributions of the engineers and disciplines involved in these landmark projects while examining the ethical and professional responsibilities that accompany major engineering achievements.
