The Columbia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers invites applications for the Howard Preston Scholarship Award. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote excellence and professionalism in the field of Civil Engineering. The scholarship will provide financial support for the student’s educational expenses. An Opportunity to Serve  Accreditation is the process used to assure quality in education and training.  In the U.S., accreditation of civil engineering programs is a voluntary process conducted by the ABET, Inc. (the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology).   The work of ABET is accomplished by voluntary Program Evaluators (PEV’s) from professional societies such as ASCE.   Past President Eric Shmieman provides information.. West Point Bridge Design Contest (for US Students Age 13 - Grade 12) ....The West Point Bridge Design Contest is a nationwide Internet-based competition intended to promote math, science, and technology education in U. S. middle schools and high schools. The contest provides students with a realistic introduction to engineering through an engaging, hands- on design experience. Participation is free. All U.
