Meeting Co-Sponsors: CT Chapter of the Structural Engineering Institute and the ASCE Student Chapter at the University of Connecticut

Please join CSCE at a virtual lunch meeting on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. At this meeting, Tim Ariosto, P.E., and Hannah Rakowski of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates (WJE) will provide an overview of a condition assessment and structural review of the historic Perry Memorial Arch in Bridgeport, CT. Constructed in 1918, the Perry Memorial Arch is a monumental brick and stone arch that utilizes unreinforced mass masonry construction. The scope of WJE’s investigation included review of historical documentation to develop an understanding of the structure and an extensive field investigation to review the existing conditions at the exterior and interior of the monument. WJE used the findings of the investigation to complete a structural analysis of the monument. The analysis included an assessment of the structure’s capacity for wind and seismic loading. In addition to modern numerical methods of analysis, WJE also implemented historic, graphical methods to determine the stability of the arches.

Attendees will have the opportunity to earn 1 New York State Professional Development Hour (NYS PDH) at this event.
