021120 CSCE Monthly Dinner Meeting at Quinnipiac University

Tuesday, February 11, 2020 - 05:00 PM

Co-Sponsors: CSCE Legislative Affairs Committee and ASCE Student Chapter at Quinnipiac University

Topic: Raise Your Emotional Intelligence, Lower Your Stress

This dinner meeting topic is intended to be fun, try-this-at-home learning that will stretch people’s views, build group cohesion, and increase everyone’s ability to listen to and support one another effectively. During this evening, participants will:

  • Fully engage in connecting with others with The Bolder Company’s Learn It-Do It-Own It approach
  • Understand the importance of relationships in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry (it’s really a people business, isn’t it?)
  • Learn strategies to notice, pause, and step back from unproductive conflict, blaming and high-charge emotions to make room for teamwork that gets the job done

Also, at this meeting, some Connecticut Chapters of Engineers Without Borders USA will give a short presentation about their latest efforts. Engineers Without Borders USA collaborates with communities in more than 40 countries through its International Community Program. Two hundred seventy-five (275) chapters across the United States partner directly with communities to meet their self-identified needs. In Connecticut, the Hartford Professional and Yale University Chapters are working on water projects in Tanzania, the New Haven and New London Professional Chapters are working on water or sanitation projects in Nicaragua, and the University of Connecticut Chapter is working on sanitation with a community in Peru. In addition to joining Connecticut chapters of EWB-USA, civil engineers can explore volunteer opportunities as project reviewers, technical resource persons, or other roles. We invite attendees of this meeting to take a few minutes to meet with chapter representatives and learn more about the challenging and rewarding work that EWB-USA volunteers are doing.
