110520 Virtual Lunch Meeting
Meeting Co-Sponsors: CSCE Water Resources Committee and the ASCE Student Chapter at the University of Hartford
Please join CSCE at a virtual lunch meeting on Thursday, November 5, 2020. At this meeting, David Sacco, a civil engineer with TPA Design Group in New Haven, will discuss the Yale University Chapter of Engineers Without Borders USA's recent pond rehabilitation project in rural Tanzania. The Yale University Chapter of Engineers Without Borders USA adopted a pond rehabilitation project in rural Tanzania in 2017. The community-built pond helped provide a dry-season water supply for livestock during the dry season for more than twenty years until it breached in the early 2000s.During yearly visits to their partner village of Naitolia, Yale teams surveyed the pond, assessed water quality and availability from multiple sources and developed a strategy to repair the pond to service. Since 2018, construction efforts have restored the pond to service, enhanced its reliability and increased storage capacity. The Yale Chapter has also evaluated a well-fed drinking water system and conducted educational efforts with school students and community members.
Attendees will have the opportunity to earn 1 New York State Professional Development Hour (NYS PDH) at this event.
