110718 Monthly Dinner Meeting at the University of Hartford

Please join CSCE at the November dinner meeting at the University of Hartford where Tom Laliberte and Benjamin Szymanski of WSP will give a presentation on the West River Project. The West River project location is one of the most heavily traveled section of highway in the State.  The project includes the reconstruction of approximately one mile of I-95 and the reconfiguration of two interchanges, the replacement of two bridges with a widened single span bridge over Ella Grasso Boulevard in New Haven and a widened six span bridge over West River between New Haven and West Haven. The presentation will discuss the history of the project, provide a project overview and will touch on some of the innovative aspects of the design and construction of the project.

Tom Laliberte, P.E. - Tom is a Senior Supervising Engineer and the Structures Department Manager for WSP’s Connecticut Office. Tom has over 20 years’ experience in the design, evaluation and construction of various bridges and structures. Tom received his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts and M.S. from the University of Connecticut.

Benjamin Szymanski, P.E. - Ben is a lead structural engineer with WSP.  Ben has a B.S. and M.S. from the University of Connecticut and has 11 years of experience in structural engineering including design, analysis, construction support, rehabilitation, rating, inspection, and alternate delivery, including design-build and P3.  He was involved in the design and construction of Connecticut’s first design-built project, the accelerated Route 8 Rehabilitation Project.  Ben was a designer for Phase 2 of the cable-stayed, Kosciuszko Bridge in New York City and is currently serving as the project manager for the West River Bridge Replacement project.
