Section Informant - June 2013
Region 3 and our National Initiatives
By: John Frauenhoffer, Region 3 Director
Welcome to our new ASCE Website Pages for Sections and Branches! This is a pilot program in Region 3 funded by your dues, and we are very pleased to present it to you.
Your Region 3 Governors and I have embarked upon a three-year mission to examine our ASCE National Initiatives, to solicit your input, to develop recommendations for national improvement, and to create regional programs to bring the value of our national initiatives home. We have begun with “Raise the Bar”. ASCE has fostered “Raise the Bar” for one and one-half decades. The membership’s support of this national initiative is split. In Region 3, the Governors are engaging in a seven-month examination of the opinions in their Sections and Branches. This effort will culminate is a Region Resolution Vote in Chicago on August 16 at the Region 3 Assembly.
Next year, we will engage the Infrastructure Initiative. The initial goal is to foster development of infrastructure funding within the Region with an emphasis on new funding mechanisms. It is a lofty goal and is dramatically needed. The following year, we will examine Sustainability.
The Region 3 Assembly will be held in Chicago on August 16 and 17 and is open to the membership. Please attend the Region 3 Assembly, consider our Region Resolution, present your opinion on “Raise the Bar”, and vote. Please contact me at John Frauenhoffer for Assembly information.
