Dear New Mexico ASCE Members,

We are excited to inform you about our recent initiative to launch a Younger Member group in the New Mexico section! New Mexico has yet to establish such a group, and we believe it is time for change to help develop and grow our community. We hope that joining the group will be both interesting and beneficial to any seeking a community of like-minded young individuals.

ASCE defines Younger Members as those ASCE members who are age 35 or younger. Whether you’re just starting your journey in this industry or have a few years of experience, you are more than welcomed to join the Younger Member group. We understand that transitioning from the classroom to the professional world can be challenging and sometimes isolating. Therefore, creating a new group specifically geared towards younger engineers who are eager to network, learn and grow in their careers can aid in that transition. We aim to continue the support and development that is seen in the ASCE Student Chapter and extend it to those in the industry.

As the Younger Member Group, we seek to provide our members with opportunities of:

  1. Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow members and local community leaders through networking events and social gatherings.
  2. Industry Insights: Attend presentations and webinars on latest advances and projects in the civil engineering world.
  3. Professional Development: Participate in training sessions and presentations to enhance your civil engineering skills.
  4. Conferences
  5. Continuing Education
  6. Political Advocay

Joining our group can help expand your professional network and provide knowledge and support that will benefit your career.

We are thrilled to announce that the Younger Members group will host its first meeting on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024, at the Tractor Brewing Wells Park from 6-8pm. Limited drink passes will be provided to attendees.

Our primary goal is to network and enjoy an evening with those interested in joining the group. We will also provide information on the purpose and future of the group and address any questions concerning the group.

Furthermore, if there is interest in joining the Younger Member board, we currently have the position of Treasure available. The Treasure shall keep a complete and up-to-date account of Younger Member group monies and prepare an operating budget for Younger Member group activities for the fiscal year, making allowances for each committee so that they may plan activities with the range allotted to them. This role requires approximately 5 hours per week to fulfill group needs. If you are interested or would like more information, please reply to this email.

We are excited to begin on this journey and look forward to seeing you at the first Younger Member Group meeting!
