Manayunk Bridge Trail Connection (1 PDH)
The iconic Manayunk Bridge, a historic former railroad bridge which spans the Schuylkill River and was built in 1918, sat unused since 1986, when SEPTA shut down a regional rail line. On October 2015, it reopened as the only pedestrian- and bicycle-only bridge over the Schuylkill River. Today it provides a vital connection between Lower Merion Township (Montgomery County) and Manayunk (Philadelphia), and among the Schuylkill River Trail, the Cynwyd Trail and the Ivy Ridge Trail. The presentation will discuss the many challenges the project faced, from the perspective of the two municipalities who involved and the engineers who worked on the project.
