SEI - Structural Stability in Bridge Construction (1 PDH)
This presentation will address the behavior of girder bridges during construction and identify vulnerabilities and engineering methods than can be used to investigate the structure's strength and stability at critical stages of construction. During bridge construction, the member support conditions, loads, stresses, strength, and stability are affected by the erection practices such as lifting, installation of bracing, bearing conditions, temporary supports, and placing sequence. Identifying how loads during construction differ from final design conditions and the equations and methods needed for checking various member conditions are important in the creation of a bridge erection plan. This presentation will draw on available industry resources and past projects to identify critical aspects for the development of construction engineering plans, procedures, calculations.
