The existing James Street Bridge was the only access for large trucks serving a major industrial park north of the Christina River. The replacement bridge was built slightly off alignment to maintain truck access across the existing bridge. On the south side of the river is the Christina River Force Main (CRFM), a 72” non-redundant sanitary sewer in poor condition beneath the bridge approach roadway. Protecting the CRFM was central to design and construction. The presentation discusses key constraints, protective measures, and how the project team overcame construction challenges.
