ASCE Section: Runway Rehabilitation at Trenton Mercer Airport and College Park Airport (1 PDH)

Event From Date
Thursday, November 14, 2019 - 05:30 PM

Runway Rehabilitation projects restore the pavement surface and extend the life of an airport runway. These types of projects are undertaken within tight schedules to minimize airport operations. Urban Engineers led the recent design and construction of runway rehabilitation projects at two public airports, each of which serve a different type of aircraft. Trenton Mercer Airport is a small commercial service airport in New Jersey with significant private corporate jet usage, while College Park Airport is a very small recreational airport in Maryland with primarily single engine propeller aircraft usage. This presentation session will discuss the design, permitting, and construction of the two projects, highlighting the fundamental differences in project approach as well as the unique funding challenges faced by each.
